Sviatoslav Richter Sviatoslav Teofilovich Richter was a Soviet pianist who was recognized as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. He was well known for the depth of his interpretations, virtuoso technique and vast repertoire. First who gave him a first basic education in music was his father who was a pianist and organist. Richter gave his first recital, at the engineers" club of Odessa on March 1934, but his studies started three years later at the Moscow Conservatory with famous pianist and piano teacher Heinrich Neuhaus.
Sviatoslav Richter"s repertoire spanned the major works of the piano repertoire, although with many omissions. His noted recordings are works by Franz Schubert, Beethoven, Bach, Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, Sergei Prokofiev, Sergei Rachmaninov, Alexander Scriabin and many others. He preferred not to plan concerts years in advance. He died in Moscow while studying for a concert series. ![]() |
