Michael Ryan has more than 30 years experience as a piano technician and tuner.
He is an accredited Steinway, Kawai, and Piano-Disc Technician. In 1999 while working in the Steinway factory in Hamburg, Germany, he covered all aspects of the piano’s construction. In 2001, he attended further training and received full accreditation at the ‘Steinway Academy’ for concert technicians in Hamburg. Attendance at this Academy was at that time by invitation only.
In 2003, he worked in the Kawai factory in Japan, and at the end of this time was awarded the honour of being a ‘Kawai Master Piano Artisan’.
Michael also played a major role in writing, establishing and implementing the Australasian Piano Tuners & Technicians Association Accreditation exam, and is currently on the testing committee. He was heavily involved with the writing of the National Furnishing Curriculum for Musical Instrument Tuning & Repair, which he taught through TAFE to local and interstate apprentices. He has also attained a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
Michael Ryan is also a Registered Piano Technician in the United States having passed their accreditation exam.
Michael has been a member of the Piano Tuners & Technicians Guild QLD since 1982, was Treasurer from 1986-1995 and President between 1995 and 2001. He was also the Treasurer of the Australasian Piano Tuners & Technicians Association from 1995 to 1999. He is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the IAPBT and President of the PTTG QLD.

Michael is currently the head tuner/technician at the Qld Conservatorium of Music as well as the tuner for all the major concert venues in Brisbane.
