Standard Series Grand Pianos View Pianos

The grand pianos of the standard series are made to suit users who may need a smaller instrument. Petrof has been able to strike a balance between quality and price with these exceptional grand pianos, as they not only have outstanding sound characteristics, but also offer a wide selection of finishes which means they can be tailored to suit the interior where they will be placed.

All pianos in the Standard Series produce the characteristic Petrof sound. The instruments can be also equipped with magnetically balanced action or Magnetically Accelerated Action.

P-V

The PIII grand piano has the greatest sound potential of all the instrument in the standard series. It is intended to be used by demanding individual pianists, higher music schools, and for concerts in smaller halls and clubs. It produces the characteristic PETROF sound.

The PIV grand piano is an instrument intended for home use or education purposes. It can be a beautiful accessory to your home and its tone will delight both beginner and professional pianists alike.

The PV grand piano is ideal for professional pianist who wishes to practice at home. Many tuners, pianists, technicians and music industry professionals would argue that this is the perfect home piano.

The P 173 Breeze is an improved instrument of the new generation of Petrof grand pianos. Even though this piano is middle sized, Petrof has used the most advanced structural elements of great concert instruments and selected materials of the best quality. This grand piano, and its compatriot the P IV, are intended for home use or education and training purposes. They can be beautiful accessories in a home and their typical romantic tones will delight all ambitious pianists.

The P159 Bora is ideal for hobby players and professional pianists who wish to practice at home. It is the smallest instrument of the new generation of Petrof grand pianos, but does not lack the characteristic romantic tone of other grand pianos in the series. Even though this piano is shorter, Petrof has again used advanced structural elements and the best quality materials.

Handcrafted European Pianos
Since 1864, the highly skilled craftsmen at Petrof have been making grand pianos and upright pianos. Unlike most piano manufacturers, all Petrof grand pianos and upright pianos have a significant handcrafted  component.

The woodwork operations on Petrof pianos, such as the precisely tapered soundboard and the components for the piano rim, are shaped on a high-tech CNC router, providing exact precision.

The assembly  operations, including the working of bridges, positioning of the iron plate, regulation of  keyboard & action and shaping of the hammerheads – are all done by hand. These delicate operations greatly influence the sound and character of a piano and only a trained piano specialist can individually tailor the adjustments to bring out the best in each and every Petrof piano.

The grand pianos and upright pianos of the Petrof Master Series, Art Series and Special Collection are all fully handcrafted. The Petrof Standard Series of grand pianos and upright pianos are approximately 60% handcrafted.

A smaller size is also the advantage of the PV and P VI models. As with the P159 Bora, the P V is ideal for the professional pianist who wishes to practice at home. The P VI grand piano is the smallest instrument of the standard series. It suits smaller interiors and is ideal for training purposes.

Standard Series Techincal Specifications and Details

All models have many advantages due to their professional construction and the high quality of materials used.

The solid rim construction of all pianos ensures high and long-term tuning stability and action regulation, as well as soundboard crown stability, which is a prerequisite for perfect performance. Rare ebony on the inner face enhances the noble appearance of pianos. P-194_Storm

The other models have a laminated inner rim made of nine layers of solid beech and birch lamellas, while the outer rim has a solid alder core, sandwiched by veneered HDF. The total thickness is 5.8mm. In all models the rim is produced with highest CNC machined exactness.

The rim is reinforced by massive spruce CNC produced frame posts _ four in the P194 Storm and three in the other models. The joints of the posts and rim are dove-tailed with beech hardwood dowels.

The robust construction of the legs ensures high stability of the instrument whilst being played dynamically. They are Petrof originals and have a solid beech core and have a solid alder outer lining, with a Gabon counter veneer and outer decorative thin veneer.

The CNC-machined iron plate is of grey cast iron. In the P 194 Storm, P173 Breeze and P159 Bora, it is wet sand casted, and has a hand finished surface. In the other models the surface is hand worked and lacquered.

In the P173 Breeze and P159 Bora, the iron plate, which is of a vivid light gold tint, perfects the modern design of the instruments. It is possible to harmonize the piano design with its surroundings and to also produce a piano with silver metal parts.

Precise drilling on the iron plate on all models means an exact length of strings and creates perfect conditions for their optimal oscillation and creation of an exact tone.

The hardware fittings are corrosion resistant, therefore they do not require any maintenance. They are Petrof originals and are made of solid brass, are polished and lacquered.

The pinblock in these grand pianos has a high resistance to atmospheric changes, such as humidity, and provides stable torque of tuning pins, which results in high tuning stability.

It is made of special Multiplex beech plywood and has an original veneer thickness of 2 mm, compressed to a density of 800 - 850kg/m3, equating to six-veneer layers/cm. P-173-Breeze
High moisture-resistant glue is used. The symmetric crown and wedge tapering, from 9mm in the front to 7.7mm in back arc, of the soundboard gives the pianos a round singing tone colour, typical of Petrof pianos and making it suitable for chamber music and advanced players. The soundboard is a Petrof original and is made from European mountain spruce.

Traditional circular-shaped ribs support the symmetric crown of the soundboard. The ribs are also Petrof originals and are made from the same fine European spruce. The straight corner cross rib, or cut off bar, is produced from solid beech, and is CNC machined to the form of the soundboard crown. Hornbeam and ebony caps of the treble bridge support the bright tones of the middle and treble frequencies in the P194 Storm. In the P172 Breeze and P159 Bora, the ebony bridge is used to efficiently transfer high frequencies to the soundboard.

In all models the treble bridge has a solid beech body. The P172 Breeze and P159 Bora have a genuine ebony cap in the high treble section, while the P194 Storm has a hornbeam cap in the middle section, and genuine ebony top cap in top descant section. The other models have hornbeam caps.

In all models the bass bridge has a solid beech body with a foot bridge. All bridges are graphite coated, machine notched and hand drilled for the pins.

The use of agraffes and duplex scaling adds richness to the tonal colour of the P172 Breeze and P159 Bora. Their construction is comparable to world-class grand pianos. In the P194 Storm, single hitch pinning provides better tuning stability, simpler exchange of strings, while double string hitching of plain strings is used in the P172 Breeze and P159 Bora.

The front and rear duplexes of the pianos are pretuned. In the P172 Breeze and P159 Bora, they are used in the high treble, with agraffes in the bass and low treble. All duplex bridges are laser positioned.

In the P III, P IV, P V and P VI, the agraffes are comparable to the finest brands of grand pianos, with double string hitching in the treble.

The tuning pins of all models are nickel-plated steel and corrosion resistant. P-159-Bora

The strings are made from wire of the highest quality with steel wire for the treble strings core sourced from Mapes in the USA and Röslau in Germany . The copper winding is from Degen, in Germany . The longest string in the P172 Breeze, P III and P IV it is 1260mm. In the P159 Bora, P V and P VI it is 1150mm. The Abel hammer heads, which are fitted in the P194 Storm, P III and P IV grand pianos, are some of the best in the world and enable the player to extract a great variety of tones.

The German-produced Abel product has walnut or hornbeam mouldings and Abel premium under felt and top felt, with hornbeam hammer shanks featuring in the P194 Storm. The felt is manufactured by French company Laoureux, which guarantees the highest quality.

In the P172 Breeze and P159 Bora, Petrof may use Renner hammers.

The Petrof action is quick, with good repetition. It enables the grand piano to be played confidently, even if the passages are technically demanding, and allows the player to have full creative control of the tones. The specifically profiled aluminium wippen and hammer action rails are very stable, regardless of changes in humidity.

The keys are Petrof originals, with each key individually balanced. Key tops provide a pleasant feeling and ensure a reliable playing experience. They are made of European spruce, with Swedish Polyplex used for the white and black acrylic tops.

The robust key bed is of the same construction as master concert instruments. It ensures regulation stability of this grand piano´s action as well as stability of the whole instrument while being played dynamically.

A Petrof original, it is made of spruce, sandwiched between beech hardwood veneers. A solid beech hardwood insert is inset in the spruce core in the lyre and legs area. The 47mm key bed is CNC worked and additionally reinforced by a bulky solid wood rail from below. The construction, materials and function of the pedals are comparable with the highest class of piano pedal mechanisms.

The three pedals are solid brass, with the middle pedal having a sustenuto function. In the P172 Breeze and P159 Bora, the pedal system is braced with two steel braces to ensure extra stability when playing.
