Petrof craftsmen have built an enviable reputation of excellence, built on traditional skills honed over 145 years.
The top-of-the range pianos are handmade from the finest materials and with utmost attention to detail. Each one can take nine months to build from start to finish. This drive for excellence has allowed Petrof to display the mark of European Excellence.
Even though production methods have evolved through the years, the personal touch at Petrof has never been compromised. The timeless style of the instruments, with a brilliantly clear and rich sound and wide, colourful range of musical voice is the result of the extreme attention to detail.
The beauty and style of a grand piano often hides the fact that it needs to support more than 20 tons of string tension. A well-crafted instrument displays a strength that makes the piano one of the most impressive examples of engineering.
Petrof combine state-of-the art technology, at their own research centre, with master craftsmen expertise to ensure the instruments produce the finest tones and can hold their tuning at concert pitch for many years to come.
A piano’s appearance is often an integral part of a buyer’s decision-making process, with the woods, cabinetry and styling needing to match the surrounds in which it will be housed, be that in a special room, or as the focal point of a home.
At Petrof extraordinary attention is paid to the surface treatment of all pianos during production, because a beautifully sounding instrument must also have exquisite looks. Polyurethane paints are used for satin surfaces and for highly polished surfaces polyester paints are applied.
Most cabinets are made of laminated hard woods, as they need to be strong and durable. Solid wood cases have been used in the past, but do not stand the test of time.
The traditional finish also has its charm, with the many elegant cabinets boasting carvings and rich styling, as well as matching legs and trim. At Petrof the master craftsmen can sometimes spend an inordinate amount of time perfecting a pianos decorative finish.
It is interesting to note that the production quality, modern equipment and the expertise of Petrof employees are increasingly used by other grand and upright piano manufacturers, as the company produces coated acoustic elements or even finished instruments of other brands, to their design specifications.
An integral part of the Petrof piano factory is the keyboard department. Keyboards are made on highly efficient and precise automatic computer controlled machines.
