Touch & Response

The touch and feel of a piano is often as important to a pianist as the sound. The quality of a piano’s action determines how the instrument can be played.

Performers need to be able to produce notes that are powerful, delicate, short, long, fast and slow and a piano action needs to respond quickly to the nuances of the person caressing the keys.

Petrof pianos are capable of exact precision during dynamic performances and have durable actions designed to withstand years of playing. The Magnetically Accelerated Action (MAA), patented by Petrof, enhances that durability and solves the conflict between the static and dynamic attributes of a keyboard.

The magnetically accelerated grand piano action is a traditional piano action in which dynamic behaviour has been improved by the installation of two correspondingly-oriented permanent magnets. There is faster and easier movement of action parts and keys and key balancing is achieved with smaller weights, or a reduction of the weight of keys at the front.

The system takes pressure off the instrument, thereby increasing the instrument’s working life. It also enhances the user experience as it allows for faster repetition and makes the piano easier to play, while sustaining the traditional static balancing of the keys.
